Weld Court System & Jurisdictions

Weld County is part of the 19th Judicial District of Colorado. All cases are heard at the Weld County Courthouse in Greeley. In Colorado, trial courts are divided into two levels — District Court and County Court — and both operate in the same building.

District Court handles:

  • Criminal cases involving felonies
  • Civil claims with amounts over $15,000
  • Family cases — divorce, custody, child support
  • Probate and guardianship cases (probate — the legal process of managing an estate after death)
  • Protection order cases
  • Juvenile cases

County Court deals with other types of cases:

  • Criminal misdemeanors and petty offenses
  • Traffic violations
  • Civil claims with amounts up to $15,000
  • Small claims cases — up to $7,500
  • Eviction cases (FED/eviction)

If you are unsure which court your case belongs to, contact the court's information center at (970) 475-2400 — the operator will help determine the correct division.

Weld Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The schedule of hearings for today, tomorrow, or the current week can be viewed through the docket search tool on the Colorado Judicial Branch website. To use it:

  1. Select "Weld County Courthouse" in the court selection field.
  2. Specify the type of court — County or District (or both).
  3. Set the date or date range.
  4. If necessary, add the party's last name or case number.

The system requires at least one filter besides the date. Results show the hearing time, courtroom, judge's name, and case number.

Some hearings are broadcast online. The Weld County page has links to view court sessions in real-time. Recording or replaying the broadcast is prohibited.

The Clerk's Office windows close at 4:00 PM. Check court closure information on the official page, as the court sometimes closes for part of the day.

How to Get a Copy of a Weld Court Document

Copies of court documents are issued by the Clerk's Office. There are two types of copies:

  • Uncertified copy — suitable for personal review or personal archive.
  • Certified copy — has the court's seal and clerk's signature; needed for official use in other institutions, when filing appeals, or for immigration procedures.

Three ways to obtain a copy:

  1. In person — visit the Centennial office in the courthouse. You will need the case number or party's last name for the search.
  2. By mail — send a written request indicating the case number, party's name, document type, and number of copies. Include payment by check or money order made payable to "Clerk of the Combined Courts."
  3. By phone — call the Clerk's Office to confirm the document's availability and payment amount before sending a mail request.
